Just ordered the digirig 891 and a mobile version for the 2m radio to get the truck full digital, got both of them because of your videos. I'm looking forward to getting everything set up. I got the digirig lite in the cart for my handheld as soon as I figure which audio cable to get. Love the videos.

I like this new digirig! I've been using the basic digirig with the Yaesu "8XX" audio cables and a 6in USB to "Printer USB" from amazon with my 891 in the field with no issues. Raspberry Pi or a windoze system, both worked very well with cat control and audio for FT8 and JS8 Call. Will have to give the DG891 cables a try though to see how things change and improve.

Hey Gaston! Very interesting video, man! I got my license recently and I'm trying to build up some practical experience and my contact net. These DigiRig + digi modes caught my attention and I'm preparing to start using this stuff. One question that I have though, is if this configuration you showed in this video works with HF as well. I mean, just plug into one of your manpacks and use the android device to run the comm. Also I'm curious if that works with that new DigiRig made for the Yaesu FT-891 (because it's the radio I have). Thanks for sharing!!! 73 de SA5PEN

FYI the new version of WOAD supports the CM1008 GPIO. I haven't been able to test as my tablet uses the old usb mini and I need a usb mini to usb c adapter. The new version also support PTT with RTS which does work just fine my my home brew interface. Unless something has changed the new version still isn't on the Play Store so you must side load it from the authors website... now if ANDFLMSG would add gpio or right channel tone support... we need more great Android apps for portable operators!

I have been in Communications via radio since 1982ish. When I started, EVERYTHING was analog and wideband. Today, most agencies, especially in the larger metro areas are or have transfered to either 800Mhz trunking, or the new as of about eight to ten years ago to the 700Mhz band. If they have not gone to this, they have ALL gone to narrowband due to a FCC mandate years ago and possibly P25. Cb and Ham are the holdouts thus far for wideband. If you want to be able to monitor ALL comms, you need to aquire a scanner, both handheld AND mobile/base that can recieve P25, mototurbo, and trucking and others with a frequncy spread from 30Mhz to 1800Mhz. This allows you to use that radio to recieve or monitor "other" comms while you are able to maintain comms with your group/area. As an example, Washington has gone to 700Mhz P25 and scrambled in some cases to prevent the public from monitoring. The State Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies, fire protection districts, public transportation, DOT and possibly others have already gone to that band. If you want to find these frequencies, you can look them up via the FCC website, I will not give out specifics as a person can find them in publicly accessible areas. Another set of frequencies to look up is ENG van to studio frequencies, these are the frequencies, if still used, to allow news studios to get reporters live on the air to get the news to you. If you can hear them, they are close as they use low power and directional antennas. Another tip, get some rechargable batteries that can be charged from a 12 volt battery (vehicles) and get some deep cycle or the newer batteries and some solar panels. One final bit of info, when the time comes for SHTF comms, its likely the 3 letter agencies are going to be very busy in metro areas where there is a greater number of people. The FCC will attempt to suspend the HAM radio licenses when it comes time for SHTF, this is my opinion, but when the FCC put out a notice during Covid about "following the letter of the law", it makes sense!! If you do not want to be found do NOT USE "APRS"!! Anyone can recieve and decode these signals and ditch your cell phone and anything else that uses a sim card, including your car. How do you think onstar calls 911??
